The joint venture of Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors have launched a new sedan Jaguar XE, in UK, and it is speculated that its Indian version will be launched during the Auto Expo in February 2016.This new sedan is said to be introduced as a competitor to Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, and Audi A4.
The exteriors of XE is similar to those of XF and XJ, with the XE getting a smaller chrome mesh grille in the front, same bumper, with higher ground clearance for Indian roads.The LED daytime lights, projector headlights and fog lamps, in the front are expected to remain the same, though the rear end is looking slightly different. The rear bumper looks beefier than the XF and XJ, and the dual exhaust pipes enhance this look. The sides of XE are similar to those of XF, with regards to roof line, neatly molded wheel arches, with multi-spoke alloy wheels and the rake angle of the roof line both in the front and back. The design of the boot, with its tail lamp cluster and chrome strips is also comparable to the boot of XF, except that the XE is slightly smaller. The license plate console at the rear end is expected to be beautified with chrome inserts.

Though there are no clear pictures available of the interiors of the vehicle, there is a conviction that it will live up to its name of Jaguar, thereby using finest quality leather for its upholstery. The other expected features in this sedan are electric power steering, an 8-inch touch-screen intuitive new In Control infotainment system with Voice control, cruise control, 14-way power adjustment for front seats with heating and cooling option and heated rear seats with 40:20:40 split fold, for boot space. It is expected that 5 passengers can be seated comfortably in the sedan.
Engine, variants, brakes and safety
It is expected that the car will be launched in diesel and petrol versions, with the diesel one expected to hit the markets earlier than the petrol one, due to the high demand for diesel sedans in the country. The XE is expected to be fitted with the company’s newly-developed Ingenium range of 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine, which produces power at 160 bhp and torque at 380 Nm and a second volume of power at 178 bhp and torque at 430 Nm. This sedan’s braking system is said to be efficient, with compound brake discs, attended by six piston brake calipers, apart from an emergency brake assist. The other safety features expected to be included are impact protection beams, airbags, anti-theft protection with security alarm and 3-point ELR seat belts.
This sedan is expected to cost between 28-45 lakhs.
